Poop Torpedo

Long time no blog!
Our internet has been out at home.
I've been wanting to tear my hair out.
Totally stressing about my clients and FB posting and not being able to blog.
I have so many pins that I've done!
Arg.
But you know what?
It has also been nice.
Hubs and I aren't standing at the computer all the time.
We've been spending more time with each other as a family.
Not just in the same room.

So nice.

I'm only here for a second.
At the library.
Just long enough to post a few new pictures on Facebook.
And a few pictures here.
For your enjoyment, here are some of Griffin watching himself in a video.
A seven minute monologue about a poop torpedo.
Truth.

I love his reactions.

No, he's not naked.
:)

Pray that the internet fairy comes to fix our router soon!

Pinned It, Did It, Done Friday - On a Sunday

I don't need to explain to anyone why I didn't post on Friday, right?!
Black Friday?
Still in a turkey coma?
Eh? Eh?
Anywho, I did want to share this pin that I tried because it was a huge hit with my family.

Pizza Rolls

Here's what you'll need:
Some pepperoni slices, a tube of crescent rolls, and some string cheese.
Seriously, just roll out the crescent rolls, slap some pepperoni on um,
and put a 1/2 stick of string cheese on top.
Roll um up.
Bake to crescent roll instructions.
BOOM.
DELISH.
Pinned it.
Did it.
DONE.

You can check out my pins here!

Angry Birds, Football, and Posey-Posey Pictures

Thanksgiving Day morning this year
was probably one of the most relaxing and fun
holiday mornings we've had in recent memory.
This kids played catch and Dominos and Angry Birds.
 We watched parades
 and football.

We ate cinnamon rolls for breakfast and pizza rolls for lunch.
Then we had a Christmas Card Shoot.
With our blended family, there is always limited time to get some posey-posey photos of the kids.
Sitting on the couch, I was going over the time we had Rachael with us and when we could fit
a shoot in.
We literally had 45 minutes to do it.
I had the whole family dressed, camera ready, and on location in 20 minutes.
They were all really great sports and we got some awesome shots!

We played outside in the freak 65 degree weather then headed home to eat, drink, and be merry.
Well, Matt and I had a drink.
But we were all merry.

Happy TDay to you all!

Haunted House

9:23pm
(Griffin calling from his room)
"DADDY!!!!"
(Matt goes upstairs)
"Cassie! You might want to take a look at this!"
 "Look Mommy! Froggy's a ghost!"
"Give him a bath."

Giggles, photos, vacuum, stern talk, back to bed.

Wordless Wednesday

In the spirit of gratefulness
I am grateful for the small,
sometimes overlooked beauty,
that is all around us.

Pinned It, Did It, Done Friday

Pinned it, did it, done Friday...
(On Saturday)

Amazing mother, photographer, crafter, designer, & blogger.
She recently did a post about a journal of sorts.

I read that post, pinned it on my "DIY Awesomeness" board, and immediately started.
I purchased a wee bitty composition journal at Walgreens for 99 cents.

Then I did a little collage on the front.

And a collage on the back.
I love old school collaging.
The pictures are torn out of magazines,
the edges don't quite meet up,
the shiny packing tape.
Love it.
On each page I gave the date, a simple explanation of what happened on that day,
and the first thing that comes out of Griffin's mouth when asked the same question every day.

"Babe, what was your favorite part of your day?"
 I love this.
It takes less than 3 minutes to do each day.
What a great way to see patterns of what he loves,
see how his vocabulary grows,
see how complex his memory evolves.
Pinned It. Did It. Done.

Pinned It, Did It, Done Friday

Welcome to the first edition of
Pinned It, Did It, Done Friday.

I love Pinterest.
I know you do too.
In college I used to collage all the time.
I would collage everything.
Notebooks, my dorm room door, my walls.
Everything.
Pinterest is a way for me to collage again, in a matter of speaking.
It's a way for me to visualize what I love.
See patterns.
Learn new things.

But most importantly, I think it's meant for me to experience new things.
Not just view them from the other side of my computer.
This is why I am beginning Pinned It, Did It, Done Fridays.

I will be doing/seeing/creating/cooking (whathaveyou) one pin per week and posting it here.
It might be really really simple. Something that takes 5 minutes.
Or it might be a work in progress that may take 5 months.
Whatever it is, it gets the creativity out of my head and into action.

Here we go!
 My first pin done.
"Lucky Us"
Pennies collected with dates that are most important to me.
Dates that represent my family.
Holes drilled, attached to keychain, BOOM.
Done.
And so great.
I smile each time I see them on my keychain.

Happy Friday!

Brand Spankin' New

Check. This. OUT!

I am so insanely in love with my new blog home.
It was designed and done (with great pains since I have ZERO computer knowledge)
by the lovely Heather of Life Made Lovely Designs.
She is amazing to work with.
She set it all up and asked me to do a, b, and c.
I didn't have time for a, b, or c so she did it herself.
Amazing I tell you.
That's service.
Head over to Life Made Lovely and show this gal some love!
And you must check this out.
Christmas cards?
BOOM.
Done.
And.....well....LOVELY.

This blog didn't just get a new look.
I don't have time to run two blogs right now so I'm combining them.
Cassie Allen Photography and Life Through This Lens are now one, big, crazy family.
I'm not really sure where this will take me.
But I'm psyched.
So psyched.

OH HAPPY DAY!

Pumpkin Painting

Oh Internet.
How I've missed you.
I'd say I've been busy but that would be a crazy understatement.
But the next few weeks will have me winding down a bit and I can't wait for a bit of a breather.
I also have a change to the old blog coming up that I'm really psyched about.
Until we meet again, I'll leave you with some Pumpkin Painting pictures.

Halloween is tomorrow.
Griffin is dead set on being a ghost.
Fist pump for that.
Easiest costume ever.

Happy day!

THE SICK & Awesomeness

THE. SICK.
That is what we've been dealing with here all week.
First Griffin, now me.
Bleck.

Bring on the random awesomeness!

I have a bookmark collection. It's the only collection of things I think I have.
Over 200.
These little guys are awesome!

Oh. Em. Gee.
Who's with me?!
This would be so much fun!

Mason jar + rainbow cake = LOVE.

Okay, seriously.
Matt, are you seeing this right now?!
Must make.

Next week will officially be Fall.
I want this sweater.

...and this one.

...and these boots.
(These MIGHT even fit my dang cankles.)

When Hubs proposed to me, he sang me this song.
Complete. With. Dance. Moves.
(You still got it, Babe.)

Here's hoping this is my last day sick in bed.
Happy Friday!

The All of it All - Preachy Post, Part 1

I got asked a question again today that I often get asked so I thought I'd spend a minute and talk about it.
THE ALL OF IT ALL.
How do I handle the roles of wife, mother, and photographer while having a full time job?
Do I doubt myself?
What happens when I doubt myself?
THE ALL OF IT ALL.

Today I just want to talk about the photography side of it all.
Do I doubt myself?
Yes, I totally do...sometimes.
But I tend to doubt myself or my abilities when looking at other's work through envy goggles
and not inspiration goggles.
There is always going to be someone better than me.
There is always going to be that person that just shot into the photography world like a bullet.
There is always going to be someone out there with more time to devote to the craft
or enough money to get equipment right away while I'm still plugging away with my
"Nifty Fifty".

But I'm not those people.
I'm a wife and mother and homeowner and I also have a full time job.
I am going at my own pace.
When I doubt MYSELF and if I'm on the right path, I ask myself this question:
Would I take pictures for free?
The answer is a resounding YES.
That tells me that I'm on the right path. The sweetest bonus is that I get paid for doing what I love!
Eventually, getting paid for doing what I love will allow me to leave my day job.
It will allow me to be with Griffin more.
Getting paid for doing what I love will raise the quality of my family's life.

When I doubt my ABILITIES, I remind myself this:
When I first started doing professional photography, there were people out there that loved my work.
There were people that sought me out because they liked what they saw.
I look back at those pictures and I wish I could give them all do-over sessions!
Or a hug.
:)
But they encouraged me to keep going.
So I did.

Not everyone is going to like my style.
But that's okay with me.
I will work VERY hard and put my heart and soul into those that do.
Am I awesome?
Nope.
Do I doubt that I should be doing this?
Nope.
Because it was a long, hard road for me to find THE THING that
challanges me
uplifts me
makes me feel important
makes me feel like I belong.
It's the thing I want to do first thing when I get out of bed.
It's the last thing I want to do at night.

Am I worried that my clients won't like my work?
Hells. Yes.
That fear is always there when providing a service to others.
In any capacity.
Staying positive.
It's so insanely easy to get bogged down.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
Stop focusing on what you don't have.
Work with what you do have.
Take the hours you have in a day to devote to THE THING that you love doing
and make it count.
Some people have all day.
Some people have 2 hours.
Doesn't matter.
Make it count.
Photography, being with your children, cooking, going back to school, crafting,
blogging, underwater basket weaving...doesn't matter.
Make it count.

Lord knows I don't have all the answers.
Hubs will attest.
Late at night, when I'm tired and the house still hasn't been picked up and I'm so far behind on my editing
and I didn't get to spend as much time with Griffin as my heart needed and on and on he tells me that
it's all worth it.
Because I haven't been brought this far to be abandoned now.
Because a year from now I will have wished I started today.
Stay the course.
(I love my husband.)

Wow. I just read through this.
I can seem preachy, can't I?
I guess I just said what I want to hear when I'm down or doubtful.
There are people that believe in me.
That keeps me going.
I believe in you.

Now.
Let's go be awesome.

Happy Tuesday!

Polar Bear

Oh the faces.
He just cracks me up!

Griffin, show me your teeth! Growl like a Polar Bear.

You are so funny!
I love you so much.
Now head upstairs. It's time for night night!

I die.

:)
